South Alabama’s team looks much different than a season ago, featuring just returning two players who averaged at least one point per game. But the Jaguars imported plenty of transfers who know the SEC.
Jay Jay Chandler is coming off averaging 8.2 ppg at Texas A&M last season and is joined in the backcourt by LSU transfer Charles Manning Jr., who averaged 7.0 ppg the past two seasons. Auburn transfer Javon Franklin is averaging 15 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season.
Alabama has scored a total of 197 points in its first two games of the season, but also ranks 271st in opponent 2-point shooting percentage while South Alabama has held opponents to 8 of 41 on 3-point shots in their first two games this season.

The Jaguars gave Wichita State all it could handle in their opener against a Division I opponent and will improve upon their impressive mark of 30-14-1 against the spread as an underdog since coach Richie Riley took over the program.
The play: South Alabama, +23.5.
The #14 Alabama Crimson Tide will stay at home another game and welcome the South Alabama Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. ET Nov. 16 at Coleman Coliseum. Bama should still be riding high after a win, while the Jaguars will be looking to right the ship.
The Crimson Tide strolled past the South Dakota State Jackrabbits with points to spare this past Friday, taking the game 104-88. Guard Keon Ellis and guard Jahvon Quinerly were among the main playmakers for Bama as the former dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds and the latter had 26 points and eight assists along with five boards.
Meanwhile, South Alabama was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap this past Saturday as they fell 64-58 to the Wichita State Shockers. Jay Jay Chandler had a pretty forgettable game, finishing with only eight points on 3-for-12 shooting in his 31 minutes on the court.
Bama is the favorite in this one, with an expected 23-point margin of victory. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (2-0), so they might be worth a quick bet.
Bama’s victory brought them up to 2-0 while the Jaguars’ loss pulled them down to 1-1. A couple last-season numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Crimson Tide enter the contest with 79.7 points per game on average, good for eighth best in college basketball. But South Alabama comes into the matchup boasting the 19th fewest points allowed per game in college basketball at 70.9. These opposing strengths should make for an exciting matchup.
